Farmers of the Krasnodar Region will be able to produce wine products with a protected geographical indication and an appellation of its origin.
Such an opportunity is provided by the draft of legislation adopted by the State Duma of the Russian Federation, which regulates the wine production by farmers. According to the document, peasant farms that are recognized as agricultural producers are allowed to produce wine and champagne with a protected geographical indication and a protected designation of their origin. This will help promote the products of small wineries to the market.
Farmers will be able to sell their products at retail in stationary production facilities at the location of their production. The area of vineyards of agricultural producers should be at least 0.5 hectares.
In March 2021, Rospatent registered the first geographical indication of the region of origin of wine products in Russia – «Kuban». The wine produced in the grape and winemaking zone of the Krasnodar Region will have such a marking.
